My name is Peter and I come from a Kenyan family that is very passionate about rallying.
My father, David, won the FIA African Rally Championship in a Group B Peugeot 504 pick-up way back in 1984! But his was a Group B rally car with a difference –
it was the only pick-up truck ever homologated in Group B and
unlike the other monsters of the day the 504 rallied by my Dad boasted a very modest 160bhp!
As for myself, I began rallying by sharing both the driving and co-driving
duties with my brother Alex way back in 2001. In 2005 I won my class on the historically acclaimed Kenyan Safari Rally, at the wheel of a little two wheel drive Toyota Corolla RSi!
When Pirelli announced that it was implementing the Pirelli Star Driver scheme
we decided to have a go at winning the African nomination and in 2009 it all came right and so 2010 was a massive step into the unknown for me. I had the opportunity to compete in six rounds of the World Rally Championship in a Ralliart Italy built Mitsubishi Evo X and what a year it was!
For 2011, it is back to reality as competing in the world championship represents a massive amount of investment both financially and in time away from home and work. This year I will compete in the Kenyan National Rally Championship and will follow in my father's footsteps by rallying a pick-up... But mine has over 300 bhp and four wheel drive which means this year should be a lot of fun!
Please have a browse around the website, there will be plenty of updates throughout the year, and should you want to be added to my mailing list please drop us an email or join my Facebook group…who knows, we might meet up on a rally sometime soon!
Safari Njema (journey safely!)
Peter
